It’s really important to update your Realtek sound card drivers to keep the sound playing and avoid sound crackling, missing sound with/without headphone, frozen audio/video player, or other miscellaneous sound problems which may arise due to their outdated-ness. You can easily update your outdated Realtek sound drivers and keep the Realtek device functioning normally. Check the steps given below and update your Realtek sound card’s driver software either from the Realtek’s website or through Windows Update.
It’s always good to update your sound card drivers from the manufacturer’s website. Realtek will have the latest and compatible driver software according to the make and model of your Realtek sound card designed for your Windows operating system.
Open your web browser and visit this link: “http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/”. You will be on the Realtek driver downloads website. Under the “Downloads” section, check if the drivers are available for your Realtek sound card or else you can search for them through the “Search” box. Select the driver software designed for your Windows computer and then download it. When done, exit the browser window and then run the driver file with admin permissions. To run the file with admin permissions, right click it and then select “Run as administrator”. If prompted, enter your admin password. If the driver file is a zip file, extract its contents and then run it. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the driver update installation. If prompted, restart your computer to complete the installation.
Alternatively you can update your drivers through Device Manager also. Bring up the Run utility by pressing the “Windows + R” keys together on the keyboard and then type “devmgmt.msc”. Click “OK” to proceed. If prompted, type your admin password and then continue. In the “Device Manager” window, click to expand the “Sound, video and game controllers” category, right click “Realtek High Definition Audio”, and then select “Update Driver Software”. Now Windows will give you option to let you search for drivers automatically or manually search for them. Choose whichever option you like to proceed with. If you want to manually update the drivers, make sure that you have either already downloaded them on to your computer or have inserted a driver disc through which you can do so.
You can also look for your Realtek sound card driver updates through Windows Update. Click the “Start” button and go to “All Programs”, “Windows Update”. Let the Windows Update site search for the required updates and present them to you. Select the driver updates for your Realtek sound card and download and install them with admin permissions.
