If you see the Windows 8 charms bar it has a very prominent share option. In Microsoft’s new operating system there are some core features baked into the OS and Share is one of them. With share Microsoft aims to make it easy for you to share your images, files and music with your friends and colleagues. Microsoft allows you to share through People app, Mail, and in some cases a third party application that you maybe using – in our case it was Evernote, and Skydrive the online storage app.
Through sharing feature you can directly share the content that you are viewing without having to open another app or website (such as facebook) to share your content. Sharing currently seems to be limited only to the Windows 8 Start Screen and does not work for Desktop.
We were able to successfully share from:
• Internet Explorer
In Internet Explorer you can share the site you are viewing by bringing up the Charms bar and selecting Share. By selecting People you can post the link on facebook or twitter. After selecting facebook you can see the preview generated and add a small message that you will like to share with your friends and send by cicking on the icon at the top. This will be posted on your facebook page.
You can similarly share the page link with your friends and colleagues by selecting Mail, where a mail with the link and a small preview of the page that you are sharing.
Sharing on Maps: You can share the map link by email or other sharing app such as evernote etc. but not through People / Facebook.
Sharing on Photos: You can share the photo by posting it through People – Facebook / Twitter or send it by Mail. You can also send the photos on your hard disk to your Online Storage Account such as SkyDrive.
Sharing on Music: You can share your Music by posting it through People – Facebook / Twitter or send a link or preview to your friend by email.
Sharing on Video: You can share your Videos by posting it through People – Facebook / Twitter or send a link or preview to your friend by email.
Sharing on Mail: You cannot share much on Mail, I am guessing you can do the forwards on the mail itself to share. There is a however a feature that lets you share parts of content, like text in your mail or images in your mail. To share, select the text / photos that you want to share and hit the Share button and you should be able to send the selected text / image in an email to your friends and colleagues. If you bring up the Share button from e-mail you will see a message that you need to select something before sharing. Proceed to select the text or image that you want to share and again bring up the Charms bar – now you should be able to send this as an email to your friends and colleagues.
